Enhanced Communications In New Cars -- Distracting or Not?

Hello All,

Below is a link to an interesting article that discusses how car manufacturers are providing enhanced communications systems in vehicles while at the same time creating public service announcements about distracted driving.  Are they talking out of both sides of their mouths?

New Jersey Changes Regulations For Motorcycle Permits

Hello All,

As most of  you know, I have been teaching motorcycle riding for several years now.  For those of you who were thinking of getting a motorcycle license, but didn't want to put up with the hassle of getting a permit, as of 9/26/11, permits are no longer required!  If you take a Beginner Rider Course through one of several NJ providers, all you need is valid NJ drivers license.  Successful completion of the written test and the road test which are part of the BRC earns you a waiver from Motor Vehicles.  Be aware that if you have a motorcycle now and do not have a motorcycle endorsement on your license and want to ride prior to taking a class, then you will need to get a permit.

So now it is easier than ever to learn to ride properly and safely. Lots of folks are looking into riding as a way to lower commuting costs, and bikes are readily available at bargain prices.  Please make sure to follow my blog and "like" my Facebook page.

Lowest fatality rate in 60 years!!!

Hello All,

The DOT is reporting that the number of traffic fatalities in 2010 dropped to the lowest levels since 1949, despite an increase in the national miles traveled.  How can this be? I have a few ideas.....

  • People are still driving less than they would have due to the cost of fuel
  • Graduated licenses have reduced the number of passengers that new drivers can carry
  • Car construction and safety features such as air bags, seat belts, crumple zones, etc have had a positive affect
  • Road architecture and construction has improved
  • Medical technology has improved
  • A positive of cell phones is that accidents can be reported quickly and medical help can arrive quicker
What are your thoughts?
