Lowest fatality rate in 60 years!!!

Hello All,

The DOT is reporting that the number of traffic fatalities in 2010 dropped to the lowest levels since 1949, despite an increase in the national miles traveled.  How can this be? I have a few ideas.....

  • People are still driving less than they would have due to the cost of fuel
  • Graduated licenses have reduced the number of passengers that new drivers can carry
  • Car construction and safety features such as air bags, seat belts, crumple zones, etc have had a positive affect
  • Road architecture and construction has improved
  • Medical technology has improved
  • A positive of cell phones is that accidents can be reported quickly and medical help can arrive quicker
What are your thoughts?
