Hope you are having a great summer!!! I was driving home the other day and noticed a big chocolate Lab riding in the passenger seat of a pickup truck with his head sticking way out of the window. His ears were flapping and he was barking at the other cars that had dogs in them. A little while later I as I got closer to home I noticed an SUV coming out of a drugstore parking lot with a Jack Russell sitting on the drivers lap. I'm sure you have all seen this as well, but did you know that New Jersey has a pet restraint law that requires pets to be seat belted or in a pet carrier that is secured. I didn't know this but apparently this is a law that has been on the books for many years but has recently been getting more attention by law enforcement. The fine for an unrestrained pet ranges from $200 - $1000....ouch!!
I agree that unrestrained pets, especially the ones sitting on drivers laps are a driving distraction that can lead to disasterous conseqeunces. Remember that in an accident, anything that is unrestrained is going to continue moving inside the car cabin at road speed.
